This American Life a Podcast for Stories

One of my favorite podcast to tune into is this American Life. I find it a fun playful podcast where you never know what the next episode is going to be about.  I tune in a lot of the time just to sit back and relax and hear about something told in an interesting way. I feel that this American life very much fits the theme of these are stories of American people and its done in a fun playful way often time including stories from listeners who they ask to comment with their own experiences.

This bring me to the difficulty of how to specifically nail down what kind of content this American life produces. The first foremost our a podcast dedicated to telling stories and doing it well keeping people listening. To conceptualize it I guess I would say that they pick a variety of topics with something new each time so the listener never knows what they are going to hear but it is done in such an interesting way that it keeps the listener tuning in. for example the most recent edition was about pirates and smugglers.  It is basically like tuning into the Sunday news cast Good Morning America which has different segments and is different each week but people tune in to learn some and are excited to hear about it.

Their brand identity is and always has been about telling stories and that is the goal of the podcast to tell stories of people that the listeners are interested in tuning into. This podcast has been around since 1995 and is continues to be an extremely popular podcast.   According to their website “This American Life is a weekly public radio program and podcast. Each week we choose a theme and put together different kinds of stories on that theme” (This American Life). This is how the advertise their podcast. They even have a set of podcast for people that are new to the show and different sets of list from specific episodes for people to look at.  Also since they have been doing this for over 20 years there are any number of topics that people can search for on the website. So if someone is looking for a podcast of high quality about a topic they might want to search this American life website archive first.

             Finally to summarize this American life is a national know podcast. They are dedicate to picking new themes each week to always keep their listeners hearing about new and interesting topics. They search for stories interview real people and put it together in a professional way. So if you are  looking for a good story about almost any topic I suggest you give this American life a try

Seeking Discomfort

I often think that the  human experience  is oppressed by false and debilitating claims created to scare one out of expanding outside of their comfort zone.  “Don’t talk to strangers”, “That career goal is unrealistic”, “You should not travel.
