The Opposite of Van Life - Ruby's Morning Routine

Ruby, a junior at the University of Portland, stands at the top of her "mud room" stairs, greeting her visitor after opening the motorized doors of her 25 foot sage green bus. (1/26/18)

The morning light streams through the curtain that divides the front of the bus from the kitchen, living room, bedroom, and bathroom. The childhood friend who converted the school bus for Ruby built in a bunch of nifty storage solutions like this hidden pantry. (1/26/18)

Ruby makes nearly all her meals on the bus, trying to be as  self-sustaining as possible. She eats her favorite breakfast of kefir and coconut flakes before heading out to do schoolwork. (1/26/18)

Her bus is perched on blocks and intended to be stationary. Ruby uses the massive hood as storage for her monthly water supply. While the bus has running water, her drinking water has to be bought at New Seasons, which is a 15 minute bike ride away. (1/26/18)

Ruby almost exclusively bikes or buses to get around. Driving from her NorCal hometown to Portland are the only miles she's put on the bus. (1/26/18)
