Takashi Murakami - Constant Evolution
Takashi Murakami - Constant Evolution
On February 24 prominent visual artist Takashi Murakami took to instagram and shared his latest series titled "viral." In the series he describes where the title came from and how it pertains to his journey as an artist. Whats particularly inspiring about this piece is that he gives an anecdote about how his work was featured in a Louis Vuiton collection but nothing came of it immediately. Takashi kept working and honing his craft and became more prominent after his work on a Kanye West album art. Murakami emphasizes how fickle the art world is and that to be successful one must continue to evolve as an artist and a person. The series of posts are extremely heartfelt and gave me hope that I can find success in my creative ventures as long as I keep working and stay hungry.
I feel like people tend to look at a painting and think, “OK, one artist paints a painting.” As if the condition remains the same ten years ago, three years ago, and now. But . . . the way I create the work constantly evolves. Especially in the past few years, we’ve been able to use a lot of the 3-D modeling programs, so the way I can grasp and understand forms has drastically changed and evolved. . . . Artistic expression really has to do with technique, and how you can actually realize ideas.
