Multimedia Inspiration KGW Wizard World Comic Con | A quick look at what you missed
A piece of multimedia I found to be
inspiring was KGW Portland coverage of wizard Con by Destiny Johnson. The piece
was a video that also had a photo gallery accompanying it. I think the video does
a great job of showing the event in a variety of ways. The first is that it
does a great job of setting the scene not by doing a pan shot but by what was a
sped up view that felt like a walking time lapse throughout the convention. This
was an interesting way to show so such a big space and give someone a feel of
what it would be like to be there in just a matter of a few seconds.
After showing the viewer around the
convention the video cuts to a group of people dressed in costume and has them
simply describing who they are trying to portray. Then it goes into profiling different
costumes of people showing off their creativity and all the different people
there. The video does this in a variety of ways the first being a medium shot of a girl and then the next panning
from the face of someone, dressed a peter pan, down to their feet.
In addition to being able to show a
bunch of different people in a variety of different ways there was a short
video of someone dressed as batman who was talking it got paired with two other
still photos. I thought this was a great technique to show different people all
at once with the combination of media.
I also thought the photo gallery
was great with a variety of different shots depicting people at the event.
Specific photos from the gallery that I found especially interesting were the
first photo of a child dressed a Flash Gordon and a lama shown below.

The second being
some dressed as Bob Ross painting another convention attendee.

I think the
first photo is great because it shows the emotion of the child petting a lama
and technically the lamas eyes are on the top third as well as great bright lighting
and the focus showing the texture of the lamas fur. The second photo of a
person dressed as Bob Ross is also great because it is almost two photos in one
a portrait of the person playing bob ross because it is a close-up them. The second
is though through using most liker a higher aperture number the person posing
for the painting is in focus in the background.
As a whole I think this piece is
great because of the variety of media but also because I feel that it is
something that I could aspire to do. It is also a fun way to show an event in a
way that does not require a lot of writing which I am a fan of because I am a
photographer who is also working on my video skills. This is a great example of
a fun piece that is something I would like to try to do in the future.
